Comparison of projection of distance techniques for genetic diversity studies Agronomy
Sant'Anna, Isabela de Castro; Silva, Gabi Nunes; Carneiro, Vinicius Quintão; Pontes, Daiana Salles; Nascimento, Moyses; Cruz, Cosme Damião.
The objective of this study was to compare different graphical dispersion analysis techniques in two- or three-dimensional planes. In this study, the data from different published works were used in order to determine the best methodology for analyzing the genetic diversity of different species. In this study, efficiency is measured by the amount of original distance absorbed by the projection of distances technique, which in the case of major components is equal to the amount of total variation originally available and retained by the principal components used for dispersion purposes. The projection of dissimilarity measurement technique, principal component analysis (PCA), and principal coordinate analysis (PCoA) were used. Considering the analysis by...

Genetic variability and progeny selection of peach palm via mixed models (REML / BLUP) Agronomy
Rodrigues, Haroldo Silva; Cruz, Cosme Damião; Macêdo, Jeferson Luis Vasconcelos de; Resende, Marcos Deon Vilela de; Lopes, Ricardo; Borém, Aluízio.
Heart of palm harvesting and exploitation has reduced the natural reserves of açaí and juçara; hence, the peach palm is an excellent option as source of heart of palm that can reduce the pressure on these two species. The peach palm has high tillering and no post-harvest oxidation. An experiment in a randomized block design with 72 progenies of peach palm, 36 replications and a single tree plot was performed for five years at the experimental field of Embrapa in the Western Amazon. Genetic parameters were estimated using two mixed models, one based on progeny means and the second on joint information from crops. A repeatability analysis, genotype selection, and progeny selection were performed; the Mulamba and Mock selection index was determined; and...

Hierarchical genetic clusters for phenotypic analysis Agronomy
Matta, Luiza Barbosa da; Tomé, Lívia Gracielle Oliveira; Salgado, Caio Césio; Cruz, Cosme Damião; Silva, Letícia de Faria.
Methods to obtain phenotypic information were evaluated to help breeders choosing the best methodology for analysis of genetic diversity in backcross populations. Phenotypes were simulated for 13 characteristics generated in 10 populations with 100 individuals each. Genotypic information was generated from 100 loci of which 20 were taken at random to determine the characteristics expressing two alleles. Dissimilarity measures were calculated, and genetic diversity was analyzed through hierarchical clustering and graphic projection of the distances. A backcross was performed from the two most divergent populations. A set of characteristics with variable heritability was taken into account. The environmental effect was simulated assuming . For hierarchical...

Optimum environment number for the national sunflower trials network Agronomy
Matta, Luiza Barbosa; Cruz, Cosme Damião; Santos, Iara Gonçalves; Carvalho, Claudio Guilherme Portela; Borba Filho, Aluisio Brigido; Alves, Alberto Donizete.
This work aimed to present the optimum environment number methodology and propose the optimization of the National Sunflower Trials Network, by means of the environments exclusion that do not provide loss of the environmental variability already established. Grain and oil yield data of 16 genotypes evaluated at 16 environments of the National Sunflower Trials Network, obtained from trials conducted out-of-season in 2012 and 2013 were used. An analysis was proposed to establish the optimum environment number for genotypes evaluation, based on genotype performance in the various environmental combinations. The removal or maintenance of environments in the experimental network was dynamic, since different environmental combinations impacted the...

Self-organizing maps in the study of genetic diversity among irrigated rice genotypes Agronomy
Santos, Iara Gonçalves dos; Carneiro, Vinícius Quintão; Silva Junior, Antônio Carlos da; Cruz, Cosme Damião; Soares, Plínio César.
This study presents self-organizing maps (SOM) as an alternative method to evaluate genetic diversity in plant breeding programs. Twenty-five genotypes were evaluated in two environments for 11 phenotypic traits. The genotypes were clustered according to the SOM technique, with variable topology and numbers of neurons. In addition to the SOM analysis, unweighted pair group method with arithmetic mean clustering (UPGMA) was performed to observe the behavior of the clustering when submitted to these techniques and to evaluate their complementarities. Genotype ordering according to SOM was consistent with UPGMA results, evidenced by the basic structure of UPGMA groups being preserved in each group of the maps. Regarding genotype arrangement and the group...
